What is Homeopathy?
This can be quite a complicated question to answer, but essentially, Homeopathy is an energetic natural form of medicine that is used by people worldwide to treat both acute (short term) and chronic (long term) conditions.
It isn't herbal medicine, or Chinese medicine, it is a medicine in its own right and it involves looking at health in a different way. If we consider ourselves to be energy within a physical body, we can understand that sometimes our energy becomes stuck and this is when we become unwell and produce symptoms. It makes sense, therefore, to have an energetic medicine that can help shift that stuck energy and clear through the symptoms.
In homeopathy we understand that the body is able to heal itself but that it needs support to do this. Homeopathic remedies (medicine) are energy that has come from the different Kingdoms in our world - for example the Plant Kingdom. Everything that we need to heal ourselves has been provided for us and it is an incredibly Green and sustainable medicine.

In the fifth century BC, Hippocrates suggested that there are two ways of healing, by similars and opposites. Homeopathy is based upon the Law of Similars which says that which can make you sick can heal you. This is where the word 'Homeopathy' comes from. It is made from two Greek words - homoeos (similar) and pathos (suffering or disease).
The holistic nature of homeopathy means that each person is treated as a unique individual and their body, mind and emotions are all taken into consideration as part of their treatment. When we are out of balance and feel unwell, our body communicates to us by producing symptoms - it's the only way that it can let us know something isn't right, it can't send us an email!
In homeopathy, it is these symptoms that guide us to a medicine to stimulate our own healing ability and support our recovery, while always taking into consideration who we are as an individual. I like to explain it by saying that if five people all had a headache at the same, they would all experience the headache differently. From where the pain is on their head, to other symptoms that occur at the same time (e.g. visual disturbances), to what makes the symptoms feel better and what makes them worse. For instance, some people need to be around others when they're not well while others just want to be on their own. One person may not want to move at all as it makes their symptoms worse, while another might need to lay in a certain way to find some relief - we are all unique and understanding who you are is important to me. It is these differences, your individuality, that are part of what guides me to a homeopathic remedy that will help to support your body to heal - there isn't just one remedy for a headache.
Homeopathic remedies work with your body to help it to heal - the remedies don't suppress your symptoms. If we suppress a symptom, it may go away temporarily but then comes back stronger, or it may appear to have gone but then our body puts out a new symptom. We often don't see the connection, but it is our body, us, who is putting out the symptoms, whatever they are, to communicate to us that something is out of balance. If we don't listen and we keep suppressing the symptoms, they can become more persistent, frequent and maybe begin to impact upon our daily lives. We often get used to living with symptoms but the more we accept, the further we are away from being in balance and being able to do the things we want to.
We can be out of balance on any level, physically, mentally or emotionally. Sometimes a traumatic event, such as grief, that we are unable to fully deal with, can present itself as a symptom to get our attention to say that that part of us that is still grieving needs extra support. People don't always associate symptoms with trauma or an event, but if we trace them back to where they began, we can often understand where and why we have become stuck. One of the first questions I ask during a consultation is "what was happening around the time you became unwell".
People choose to seek homeopathic treatment for many reasons. Some reasons include experiencing anxiety and/or depression, having chronic fatigue, pain, digestive disorders, arthritis, asthma, migraines, recurring illnesses ( e.g. coughs) and many more. Homeopathy doesn't treat labels or conditions though, because it treats the whole person. So whatever you are experiencing, as a homeopath, I will treat you and your symptoms individually.
